AC and DC Charging Stations
There are two main types: AC charging stations and DC charging stations. Batteries can only be charged with direct current (DC) electricity, while most electricity is supplied from the grid as alternating current (AC). For this reason, most electric vehicles have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, known as an "on-board charger." DC chargers, on the other hand, integrate the converter into the charging station rather than the vehicle, making higher-power charging easier and bypassing the on-board converter to supply the vehicle directly with DC power.
